Another Once is a private notebook. What you write in it is for you. This page says plainly what is kept, where, who can see it, and how to take it away.
What we keep
- Your account: your email address, the name you gave, and either a salted hash of your password (never the password itself) or, if you continued with Google, Google's identifier for your account.
- Your notebook: the echoes, stories, sealed checks and settings you write, stored as one document under your account.
That is all. There are no advertising identifiers, no analytics scripts and no trackers in the app.
Who can see it
Only you, signed in to your account. There is no feed, no sharing and no public profile, so nobody else is shown anything you write. The notebook is stored on the server's disk unencrypted at rest, so the person who runs the service could technically read the database; they do not browse it, and will not read your notebook except where the law requires or to fix a fault you have asked them to look at.
Where it is kept
On a hosted server (Railway) in a database file on a private volume, and a copy on each device you sign in on, so the app works offline. Signing out removes this device's copy.
Other services involved
- Google, only if you choose "Continue with Google". Google tells us your confirmed email address and name. We never see your Google password.
- An email service, only to send a password-reset link if you ask for one.
- Wikipedia, only if you click a "Search Wikipedia" link. It opens a new tab and sends the sentence you were checking as the search.
- Your browser's speech service, only if you use voice input for night capture. Your browser may process the audio online. We never receive it.
Cookies and storage
No tracking cookies. One short-lived cookie is set during Google sign-in to make sure the sign-in began on this site, and is deleted when it ends. Your browser's local storage holds your sign-in token, your offline copy of the notebook and your theme choice.
Taking it with you, and deleting it
- Download: Profile → Your data → Download backup gives you everything as one file.
- Delete: Profile → Account → Delete my account removes your account and your whole notebook from the live database straight away. You will need your password (or your email, if you signed in with Google). How to delete your account also covers what to do if you cannot sign in.
Age
Another Once is for people aged 18 or over.
Not medical advice
This app is a notebook, not a clinic. It is not medical or mental-health advice. If a fear or a memory distresses you, talk to a qualified professional, whatever you believe about where it comes from.
